Past Musings, Feeling Grounded & Groovy S1 E4
In this episode, I mention a story about the phrase, "All's right in my world." I never shared it, so I'll take the opportunity to share it now.
This was with my mother. I really do not talk about my mother much. Not that she was not an important part of my life or that I do not love her, it's complicated.
There was a weekend that I spent with her that we went out and explored the market place along the river. It was beautiful and I was blessed to grow up in an artistic and creative city. That being said, it seemed that there was something in the air that day. We hit one obstacle after another. My mom all throughout it said," All's right in my world!"
At the very end of the day, because I hadn't really been affected by these "obstacles" but found it humorous that my mother was saying this all throughout the day, I asked her why she had been saying this all day. She said it was because she didn't want me to get upset or angry from the little hang ups that we kept encountering. She found it funny that I didn't even pick up on the fact of why she was saying, "All's right in my world!"
A lesson that has stayed with me throughout the years. And when I follow it, ALL, truly is alright in my world!
1
00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:04,000
Welcome to the Wandering Musings of AJ and A-Rae!
2
00:00:04,000 --> 00:00:07,000
Two Mama's After Dark!
3
00:00:07,000 --> 00:00:10,000
Sit back, relax, and enjoy!
4
00:00:10,000 --> 00:00:24,000
(Music)
5
00:00:24,000 --> 00:00:30,000
Hey everyone! Welcome to our Feeling Grounded and Groovy episode.
6
00:00:30,000 --> 00:00:32,000
How are you doing this week?
7
00:00:32,000 --> 00:00:40,000
I'm good! I picked a whole bunch of grapes before the frost started.
8
00:00:40,000 --> 00:00:42,000
Before the bad weather started setting in?
9
00:00:42,000 --> 00:00:43,000
Yes, there you go.
10
00:00:43,000 --> 00:00:44,000
Before that storm came.
11
00:00:44,000 --> 00:00:46,000
There was Wednesday?
12
00:00:46,000 --> 00:00:47,000
Yes.
13
00:00:47,000 --> 00:01:01,000
I only got halfway through, which I'm really glad that I did because the next day, right after it was frosted and especially the following day, I was like, oh those grapes are gone.
14
00:01:01,000 --> 00:01:03,000
You got a lot of grapes.
15
00:01:03,000 --> 00:01:04,000
I do.
16
00:01:04,000 --> 00:01:10,000
I got two, I think they're ten gallon buckets.
17
00:01:10,000 --> 00:01:11,000
We'll go with that.
18
00:01:11,000 --> 00:01:16,000
Two of those full and half, more of the purple grapes.
19
00:01:16,000 --> 00:01:22,000
There's a myriad, they're not just one type of grape and then one full one of the white grapes.
20
00:01:22,000 --> 00:01:24,000
What's your plan with them right now?
21
00:01:24,000 --> 00:01:32,000
Right now to finish getting them cleaned up because that's a process. Making sure they're cleaned before I freeze them.
22
00:01:32,000 --> 00:01:33,000
No bugs.
23
00:01:33,000 --> 00:01:34,000
No bugs!
24
00:01:34,000 --> 00:01:45,000
But freeze them and then when I have a moment, I can juice them and then I want to make wine and jellies from them, but we'll see what happens.
25
00:01:45,000 --> 00:01:46,000
Sounds fun.
26
00:01:46,000 --> 00:01:47,000
Yeah.
27
00:01:47,000 --> 00:01:48,000
That's awesome.
28
00:01:48,000 --> 00:01:50,000
Yeah, how about you? How are you doing?
29
00:01:50,000 --> 00:02:02,000
Good. I'm a little tired, but it's a good tired. I did a big thing yesterday. I bought a new car. Spent all day at the dealership.
30
00:02:02,000 --> 00:02:04,000
And it's pretty.
31
00:02:04,000 --> 00:02:16,000
I did a big, impulsive thing. Well, it wasn't super impulsive. I've been thinking about it for a little bit, but I was a big kid yesterday.
32
00:02:16,000 --> 00:02:17,000
It has a sunroof.
33
00:02:17,000 --> 00:02:21,000
It has a sunroof. It's a brand new, brand new car.
34
00:02:21,000 --> 00:02:25,000
And it's pretty color on the inside. Two tone color.
35
00:02:25,000 --> 00:02:35,000
Yes, it's like dream car type colors. Yeah, brand new. It's 2024 car.
36
00:02:35,000 --> 00:02:41,000
So I feel like a very big kid accomplished. I made it in life.
37
00:02:41,000 --> 00:02:42,000
Good job.
38
00:02:42,000 --> 00:02:43,000
Yes.
39
00:02:43,000 --> 00:02:46,000
And what are you drinkin'?
40
00:02:46,000 --> 00:02:52,000
So I'm celebrating by being healthy.
41
00:02:52,000 --> 00:02:55,000
That clock is chiming in celebration with us.
42
00:02:55,000 --> 00:02:59,000
Yay! Yeah, we'll hear the clock every once in a while.
43
00:02:59,000 --> 00:03:14,000
I am celebrating with a healthy smoothie. It's a, okay, so I like my smoothies with, and my smoothies and my milkshakes this way with peanut butter and chocolate.
44
00:03:14,000 --> 00:03:21,000
Oh, yes, I know. So I used to work for Jamba Juice. Well, I worked for Zuka Juice before it became Jamba Juice.
45
00:03:21,000 --> 00:03:27,000
And there was a drink that… Anyways, long story short. I can't remember what it's called. The one with chocolate peanut butter.
46
00:03:27,000 --> 00:03:31,000
Oh, the peanut butter mood. That one. Yeah. Yeah.
47
00:03:31,000 --> 00:03:47,000
So I, whenever I make smoothies at home or if I buy them, it's always peanut butter, chocolate protein powder, and then, what else, is in it?
48
00:03:47,000 --> 00:03:51,000
That's pretty much the basics. That's what this one is.
49
00:03:51,000 --> 00:03:52,000
Do you put banana in it?
50
00:03:52,000 --> 00:04:00,000
Yes. Yeah, banana, chocolate, protein powder, and then, I feel like there's something else.
51
00:04:00,000 --> 00:04:07,000
So, uh, vanilla yogurt, vanilla, Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt. It's always good.
52
00:04:07,000 --> 00:04:12,000
Yep. And then, this one doesn't have it, but sometimes I will add frozen fruit in it.
53
00:04:12,000 --> 00:04:13,000
Yeah.
54
00:04:13,000 --> 00:04:15,000
And like a berry mix. Yeah.
55
00:04:15,000 --> 00:04:19,000
Some people don't like that with chocolate protein powder, but it's actually really good.
56
00:04:19,000 --> 00:04:28,000
Well, it's just chocolate covered fruit. I know. Yeah, that's what I am drinking today. It's celebration. I'm being healthy.
57
00:04:28,000 --> 00:04:39,000
I celebrate with you, but it's not my normal smoothie. I just, I put fruit, frozen fruit, and milk together, and now it's like an ice cream cone, but it's huge.
58
00:04:39,000 --> 00:04:48,000
It is huge. It's like a full size, maybe 32 ounce. So if you hear me like eating, it's because it's yummy.
59
00:04:48,000 --> 00:04:51,000
Don't think you're going to finish that. Probably not.
60
00:04:51,000 --> 00:04:56,000
This is going to be like three meals for you. There's no way that's a 32 ounce.
61
00:04:56,000 --> 00:05:02,000
It's fine. 64 ounce, maybe? I don't know. It's huge. 42 at least 40.
62
00:05:02,000 --> 00:05:06,000
Yeah, I was going to say it's not 64, but anyways.
63
00:05:06,000 --> 00:05:16,000
We're being healthy today. Normally I get spinach lettuce and I put that in and then I do the Greek yogurt, like you're saying and a banana and then the frozen fruit.
64
00:05:16,000 --> 00:05:18,000
And that just seems like a lot of work today.
65
00:05:18,000 --> 00:05:22,000
Do you ever just put the greens powder in? I know some people do that.
66
00:05:22,000 --> 00:05:32,000
I did. I used to have like the matcha tea powder that I put in there. It doesn't taste quite the same. I don't dislike it. I don't love it.
67
00:05:32,000 --> 00:05:38,000
That's fair. I think I just got so used to it with the spinach leaves. I just throw that in there.
68
00:05:38,000 --> 00:05:45,000
Yeah, I love spinach leaves in my smoothies. That's another thing I used to do with chocolate protein powder.
69
00:05:45,000 --> 00:05:51,000
But not like the, you have to get the... That's really good. You have to use like the, not the big spinach leaves. I like the smaller ones.
70
00:05:51,000 --> 00:05:56,000
The baby spinach? Yeah, the baby spinach. And I don't put kale in it. I'm not a fan of kale.
71
00:05:56,000 --> 00:05:58,000
You just don't like kale. Okay, got it.
72
00:05:58,000 --> 00:06:11,000
When I started, so before the wind blew all of my seeds down last spring, I had kale that I had planted so that I could feed it to my chickens. That's how much I like kale.
73
00:06:11,000 --> 00:06:16,000
But anyways, I digress. I digress. So what quote do you have for us today?
74
00:06:16,000 --> 00:06:23,000
Okay, so the quote today that I chose is by Ralph Waldo Emerson.
75
00:06:23,000 --> 00:06:34,000
It's without ambition, one starts nothing without work, one finishes nothing. The prize will not be sent to you. You will have to win it.
76
00:06:34,000 --> 00:06:54,000
And I just like this because it speaks to me, especially right now when we are talking about, because we have a few episodes where we're talking about being motivated to do things.
77
00:06:54,000 --> 00:07:04,000
And sometimes I don't have ambition or motivation to start things or finish things because we sidetracked. You know how that is.
78
00:07:04,000 --> 00:07:06,000
Yep, absolutely.
79
00:07:06,000 --> 00:07:15,000
You have to have ambition and you have to work at things. And I just, nothing is handed to you in life.
80
00:07:15,000 --> 00:07:17,000
Yeah.
81
00:07:17,000 --> 00:07:21,000
And
82
00:07:21,000 --> 00:07:27,000
not even being born into the world, you went through a process. Not that you even remember though, yeah, I mean, you don't remember, but
83
00:07:27,000 --> 00:07:37,000
I just think that you, a lot of people, I see this mentality in people, even people in my life, that they think that things are handed to them.
84
00:07:37,000 --> 00:07:39,000
And owed to them.
85
00:07:39,000 --> 00:07:53,000
And they're not going to go out and get it unless it's handed to them. And I just think that we have to remember that you can't start something without ambition. You can't finish it without working for it.
86
00:07:53,000 --> 00:08:00,000
And I just thought that that was a really good quote to remember.
87
00:08:00,000 --> 00:08:07,000
And in case you were like me and missed who it was by, it's Ralph Waldo Emerson, because I was like, who's it by?
88
00:08:07,000 --> 00:08:18,000
I'm sorry. Yes, I did say that at the beginning. I think you did. I know you would have. I'm sure you did, but I just missed it. So I was like, I'm going to say it just in case somebody missed it like I did and I'm in the same room.
89
00:08:18,000 --> 00:08:21,000
I'll just throw it out there again.
90
00:08:21,000 --> 00:08:25,000
But did you have any other "sharings" that you wanted to mention?
91
00:08:25,000 --> 00:08:32,000
No, I think, I think that pretty much sums up my week.
92
00:08:32,000 --> 00:08:33,000
Yeah.
93
00:08:33,000 --> 00:08:35,000
Those are my thoughts, how about you?
94
00:08:35,000 --> 00:08:43,000
I mean, that's a really good reminder, though, to like, remember not everything's going to be handed. You have to work for it. Sometimes you have to work really hard.
95
00:08:43,000 --> 00:09:00,000
But I noticed that in my life, the things that you work hardest for are the things that you appreciate the most, maybe not going through the process, but like you, you learn a lot more from and they become your golden moments and excuse our children and dogs upstairs.
96
00:09:00,000 --> 00:09:03,000
They're a little odd today.
97
00:09:03,000 --> 00:09:06,000
But yeah, I have a few things.
98
00:09:06,000 --> 00:09:14,000
First off, we have for November, another full moon, because it happens every, every month.
99
00:09:14,000 --> 00:09:22,000
And that's going to be on November 27th at 416 in the morning. So this time, get up early-early, I guess.
100
00:09:22,000 --> 00:09:24,000
I will not be seeing that.
101
00:09:24,000 --> 00:09:29,000
It'll be pretty much full the night before. So I think you'll be fine.
102
00:09:29,000 --> 00:09:35,000
So that's the full beaver moon, but I'll talk more about it next episode.
103
00:09:35,000 --> 00:09:39,000
And then, um, this is all from the farmers.
104
00:09:39,000 --> 00:09:41,000
Do they all have names, funny names like that?
105
00:09:41,000 --> 00:09:42,000
Yes.
106
00:09:42,000 --> 00:09:48,000
Yes, I'd never, I never knew that. I was like, yes, and I will get into it in the next episode.
107
00:09:48,000 --> 00:09:57,000
Why it's like that. But yeah, they all do, like this last one in October was the hunter's moon. This one's going to be the beaver moon. There's a reason there's a rhyme.
108
00:09:57,000 --> 00:10:02,000
Although to us, it doesn't make sense.
109
00:10:02,000 --> 00:10:08,000
And then November 12th through the 14th is when it's going to be prominent to view this.
110
00:10:08,000 --> 00:10:19,000
It is the annual meteor shower for the North Torrid meteors. And I did look up a little bit about that. Let me pull it up real quick here.
111
00:10:19,000 --> 00:10:27,000
The Northern Torrid meteor shower will be active. It's actually from October 20th, which has passed to December 10th.
112
00:10:27,000 --> 00:10:30,000
But the peak is like I said, around the 12th of November.
113
00:10:30,000 --> 00:10:38,000
Over this period, there will be a chance of seeing Northern Torrid meteors whenever the showers radiant point is in the constellation Taurus.
114
00:10:38,000 --> 00:10:43,000
So you have to find that. And that is when it's above the horizon.
115
00:10:43,000 --> 00:10:56,000
Yeah, for more information, if you would like to look it up is at in dash the dash sky org forward slash news and then you can just find it in that little article.
116
00:10:56,000 --> 00:11:05,000
And then the moon on this episode November 7th is going to be in Taurus.
117
00:11:05,000 --> 00:11:15,000
And then your sun sign just to kind of go over like the natal chart really quickly. Your sun sign is what most people know as their horoscope right.
118
00:11:15,000 --> 00:11:23,000
It tells your traits and your characteristics, your moon sign is your inner self your private self, who you are the core right.
119
00:11:23,000 --> 00:11:31,000
And then your rise is what you show people in social circumstances is your social self.
120
00:11:31,000 --> 00:11:42,000
For the moon to be in Taurus, it will give you the opportunity to harness the heavens, unlock your potential, slow down and take life steady.
121
00:11:42,000 --> 00:11:52,000
It's a time for restfulness and to kind of pause and reconnect with your basic self and senses.
122
00:11:52,000 --> 00:11:57,000
Just reminder not to get stuck in that rut.
123
00:11:57,000 --> 00:12:03,000
You know, you say you do have to move forward and that is from the which is complete guide to astrology.
124
00:12:03,000 --> 00:12:11,000
And I forgot to put down the author so I will do that and let you guys know at a different time, if you are interested.
125
00:12:11,000 --> 00:12:15,000
I think that ties in really you did this on purpose I'm sure.
126
00:12:15,000 --> 00:12:42,000
I didn't. I really didn't. It ties in really well with what we were going to talk about today because it is telling us to slow down and but not slow down too much so that we get stuck because I think we have a tendency at least for me personally we have a tendency to take a step back, slow down and be like I'm too overwhelmed or I'm overworked let's you know and then you do nothing and you get in the habit of doing nothing and then
127
00:12:42,000 --> 00:13:00,000
you can't get yourself out of that rut I guess you could say but I mean we're going to talk about meditation and mindfulness today and grounding yourself and the benefits of it on your mental health and physical health.
128
00:13:00,000 --> 00:13:16,000
That's kind of perfect. Well and I think your quote also ties into that because which I didn't do on purpose either I just really liked it I have the quotes of the day that pop up for me when I'm on my computer and that was pretty okay.
129
00:13:16,000 --> 00:13:32,000
That's cool though because it does remind you that there's a balance you can't overwork and get everything done, which is what I try to do, and you can't underwork and do nothing because you're exhausted and whatnot and stay in that state and actually progress you have to find that
130
00:13:32,000 --> 00:13:48,000
balance and I think that's what life is, it's just finding that balance on a day to day with also all the things that we have going on still make, making our deadlines still living in a fast paced world, which I wish would slow down a little bit.
131
00:13:48,000 --> 00:13:51,000
And yeah.
132
00:13:51,000 --> 00:13:58,000
So I think that really ties in quite well. Yeah, we'll just jump right in. Let's dive in. Let's dive in.
133
00:13:58,000 --> 00:14:20,000
Okay, let me start. Okay. So we thought it'd be really cool to, talk about meditation and mindfulness and the benefits for because there's benefits for mental and physical health, which I don't think people talk about them physical
134
00:14:20,000 --> 00:14:26,000
benefits that often because you don't think about them. I would even further and say that they're spiritual. Oh yeah.
135
00:14:26,000 --> 00:14:41,000
Emotional and mental. I think they're slightly different, but they're also, people realize that there is a difference between mental, spiritual, emotional. They're all tied together. Yeah, absolutely. But I don't think people really take the time to realize that.
136
00:14:41,000 --> 00:14:53,000
Yeah, it's just like your arms, right? You have two arms or you have legs. Everything's connected. They'll work together. But without one, it's slightly different. Yeah.
137
00:14:53,000 --> 00:15:04,000
So when I was researching some of the benefits of meditation, there's emotional and like I said, emotional physical benefits.
138
00:15:04,000 --> 00:15:15,000
They can include, the benefits can include you can gain a new perspective on stressful situations when you take that step back.
139
00:15:15,000 --> 00:15:20,000
And you view the situation as a whole. And you're like, Oh, okay.
140
00:15:20,000 --> 00:15:37,000
Which I can understand, especially, so I still work in a traditional job. You work in, I don't want to say a non-traditional because when I say traditional, I mean, nine… you're employed. Yeah, I'm a nine to five type of job.
141
00:15:37,000 --> 00:15:47,000
Yeah, employed, bring home a, you have a paycheck for your time. Yes. Yeah, you are employed in the sense that you have.
142
00:15:47,000 --> 00:15:55,000
Your job right now is to you're a chauffeur for your kids. Yeah, you have your farm.
143
00:15:55,000 --> 00:16:08,000
Full time mom, full time mini farm owner, you're a full time wife, trying to be an entrepreneur, you're kind of doing a lot of things. Yeah, and you might not see, you know, a typical paycheck for those types of things, but your job is to support.
144
00:16:08,000 --> 00:16:22,000
You don't see any paycheck right now. But those two jobs in and of themselves are stressful. Yes, in very different ways. Absolutely.
145
00:16:22,000 --> 00:16:35,000
And being a person that came from a full time job right. Yes, I worked. And have worked since I was 14 to 15 years old, up until 2022, which I'll get into the next episode.
146
00:16:35,000 --> 00:16:41,000
And we both worked in the same field. We did. We did.
147
00:16:41,000 --> 00:16:49,000
And I always thought, oh, when this one this full time job is gone, I'm going to have so much more time to focus on.
148
00:16:49,000 --> 00:17:05,000
You're more busy now. I swear. Yeah, just like I have found that I am even more busy. And then I think, how did I do this?
149
00:17:05,000 --> 00:17:20,000
You think maybe time management, not time management. I don't want to say time management because you really do manage your time very well. But I think it's a different time management because when you work, you know, okay, I'll be home at 530-ish, you know, give or take.
150
00:17:20,000 --> 00:17:32,000
And then, this, this, this, this, this. And now it's, you don't have that time constraints. Okay, this is what I need done this week. And this is what I need done today and this is where I have to go.
151
00:17:32,000 --> 00:17:36,000
But we'll get into that.
152
00:17:36,000 --> 00:17:47,000
But my point was, you know, you have stressful, stressful situations and like work and things like that. And when you can take time to meditate.
153
00:17:47,000 --> 00:17:58,000
It gives you a new perspective. Yeah, and things and doesn't have to be meditated, when, when I say meditate, I don't mean
154
00:17:58,000 --> 00:18:11,000
like Buddha, you know, kind of meditating. It can be a religious thing. Like Buddhism, Islam, big Hinduism, in Christianity, there's even meditation.
155
00:18:11,000 --> 00:18:17,000
Yeah, sitting there on the floor or praying, same idea. Yeah, eyes closed.
156
00:18:17,000 --> 00:18:20,000
Doing the same old thing.
157
00:18:20,000 --> 00:18:22,000
Sometimes that feels really cool.
158
00:18:22,000 --> 00:18:24,000
I don't know if we could do that at work every day.
159
00:18:24,000 --> 00:18:26,000
No, but just.
160
00:18:26,000 --> 00:18:34,000
But it could help you know, gain a new side of me is like, yes, this would be great.
161
00:18:34,000 --> 00:18:37,000
So that's one benefit.
162
00:18:37,000 --> 00:18:42,000
You can build new skills to manage your stress.
163
00:18:42,000 --> 00:18:53,000
You can increase your self-awareness helps you focus on present it centers you it brings you to the right here right now. Yeah.
164
00:18:53,000 --> 00:18:57,000
It reduces your negative emotions.
165
00:18:57,000 --> 00:19:02,000
It increases your imagination and creativity.
166
00:19:02,000 --> 00:19:06,000
Which do you see that in your art. Yes.
167
00:19:06,000 --> 00:19:18,000
But sometimes I use it as my meditation from work, because, or even if I'm, you know, stopping to sing or, or play my instrument, those are art forms as well.
168
00:19:18,000 --> 00:19:33,000
It brings you more centered, or focused because if I'm having a bad day and I just need to stop, sitting down and pushing everything out of my mind and focusing on that, which is what meditation is right.
169
00:19:33,000 --> 00:19:47,000
It's, it's taking a singular focus on something honing in on it and letting everything else drop and having that control to do it but it just also reset and centers and makes you more grounded like we said, and
170
00:19:47,000 --> 00:20:00,000
able to like focus on if you're drawing or whatever focus on the beauties of just what a line does or a shade does the difference it makes to a whole picture.
171
00:20:00,000 --> 00:20:16,000
Or if you're playing an instrument, you know, focusing on that and that language and letting all the other senses just kind of relax and, and for all of those things you're also getting in touch with your
172
00:20:16,000 --> 00:20:31,000
breathing because you're slowing down right because you're focusing on just those things, you're not, you're, you're not accelerating in your, in your breath intake, you're, you're bringing it down to baseline.
173
00:20:31,000 --> 00:20:40,000
And that also helps like with the meditation process and relaxing your body.
174
00:20:40,000 --> 00:20:43,000
Yeah, I can definitely see that. Yeah.
175
00:20:43,000 --> 00:20:52,000
It can also increases your patience and your tolerance, which I need help on.
176
00:20:52,000 --> 00:21:02,000
I, for me, I never thought of this as meditation, but now that we're talking I'm realizing that this is my meditation.
177
00:21:02,000 --> 00:21:17,000
I'm going for walks. I have a demo on my list without music, without music? do it with music. Sure. But when I am very frustrated or stressed, I will go for a walk.
178
00:21:17,000 --> 00:21:21,000
A brisk walk without music.
179
00:21:21,000 --> 00:21:25,000
And I come back and I have more patience
180
00:21:25,000 --> 00:21:36,000
I'm mostly from my child is usually when I'm frustrated with my child, but I'm going to one up and say you can even do that as your meditation break for when you're at work because then you're getting your physical activity.
181
00:21:36,000 --> 00:21:42,000
Oh, you're moving your body from actually sitting for so long. If you're sitting in a job right. Yeah.
182
00:21:42,000 --> 00:22:06,000
And also it lets your brain stop on whatever problem that you were working through before going on your break and focusing on resetting and I have, a I'm blessed to have a wonderful boss who encourages that she encourages all of us to go on breaks, take your lunches, take your breaks.
183
00:22:06,000 --> 00:22:17,000
And he said, you know, this year she was all about mental health. And, you know, if we need to go take a break or take a walk.
184
00:22:17,000 --> 00:22:28,000
It helps your productivity helps your alertness and your motivation to continue to work you're not feeling like you're overwhelmed you're not feeling burnt out as much.
185
00:22:28,000 --> 00:22:40,000
And I was like, I'm just going to take a break for a few moments. And after, you know, I think it was a few months back, I was going through a lot and she's like, you know, you should go on walks after work, you know, let's do it.
186
00:22:40,000 --> 00:22:43,000
You know, until it snows.
187
00:22:43,000 --> 00:22:45,000
Yes.
188
00:22:45,000 --> 00:22:48,000
Sorry, I'm like, negative Nancy right now.
189
00:22:48,000 --> 00:23:00,000
I mean, that's what indoor treadmills are for. There's outdoor treadmills, but you know what I mean. I like ellipticals better. You know what I mean, treadmills. I like treadmills more than I like ellipticals.
190
00:23:00,000 --> 00:23:07,000
I really got into like the rowing machine the last time I was on a kick for stuff like that.
191
00:23:07,000 --> 00:23:09,000
An exercise kick.
192
00:23:09,000 --> 00:23:12,000
I have an elliptical.
193
00:23:12,000 --> 00:23:14,000
Anyways, that's a different time.
194
00:23:14,000 --> 00:23:17,000
Different time.
195
00:23:17,000 --> 00:23:21,000
There is a benefit for me just it helps.
196
00:23:21,000 --> 00:23:23,000
Again, ground me.
197
00:23:23,000 --> 00:23:28,000
I come back with more patience. Yeah, tolerance. Yeah.
198
00:23:28,000 --> 00:23:33,000
In general. Yeah.
199
00:23:33,000 --> 00:23:37,000
And meditation in whatever form we choose.
200
00:23:37,000 --> 00:23:43,000
It also benefits us physically by lowering our resting heart rates.
201
00:23:43,000 --> 00:23:57,000
And lowers our resting blood pressure and improves our sleep quality, which I didn't think about, but that makes sense. Yeah, because we're clearing our mind.
202
00:23:57,000 --> 00:24:11,000
Well, it's a reset for your mind and it's a reset for your body. Yeah, because you're bringing all those things down. Yes. And then I also put down that it, like we said, grounds and produces a… It helps me be kinder.
203
00:24:11,000 --> 00:24:16,000
Because, because, you're taking care of yourself. Well that too.
204
00:24:16,000 --> 00:24:22,000
You're not caught up in the like the chaos of whatever right you had a moment to take peace.
205
00:24:22,000 --> 00:24:35,000
And then I already said here more alert and attentive after it but I did want to put a quote that I found in a book that I have that have had since 2012 actually.
206
00:24:35,000 --> 00:24:46,000
I was like, Oh, I knew I liked this book. I was reintroduced to it after this topic, but it's a complete guide to yoga Pilates meditation is stress relief.
207
00:24:46,000 --> 00:24:55,000
Okay, was put out by Paragon Publishing. It doesn't actually have like an actual author listed, which is weird.
208
00:24:55,000 --> 00:25:02,000
But is it like one of those collection books and that's why they don't have an author? I think so. I think so. It's really interesting.
209
00:25:02,000 --> 00:25:16,000
It's great to have it like how everything kind of ties together. But the quote that I wanted to bring up it brings like a scientific kind of thing to it as well.
210
00:25:16,000 --> 00:25:23,000
Like why it works not just because this is like what we have noticed or whatnot.
211
00:25:23,000 --> 00:25:33,000
But meditation helps us to restore balance between the left and right sides of the brain. The left side of the brain deals with thinking, speaking and writing.
212
00:25:33,000 --> 00:25:42,000
When we are awake and in a busy thinking state of mind, the brain emits faster electrical patterns called beta waves.
213
00:25:42,000 --> 00:25:52,000
In this state, we are able to rationalize and think about the past and the future. The right side of the brain deals with intuition, imagination and feeling.
214
00:25:52,000 --> 00:26:03,000
When we are sensing something, such as listening to music and we are in a receptive rather than active state, the brain emits slower electrical patterns called alpha waves.
215
00:26:03,000 --> 00:26:15,000
In the alpha state, we are more passive and open to our feelings. The alpha state is more most likely to happen when we live in the present rather than in the future or the past.
216
00:26:15,000 --> 00:26:25,000
It often happens just before or after sleep, but not during sleep when we are sleeping the brain emits other waves called theta and delta.
217
00:26:25,000 --> 00:26:33,000
When we are awake, we are usually in beta most of the time and spend only about an hour in the alpha state.
218
00:26:33,000 --> 00:26:44,000
Meditation helps to restore the balance by increasing our time spent in alpha. It helps us to recover feeling and to experience the world directly in the present before the sensations become interrupted by the left side.
219
00:26:44,000 --> 00:26:59,000
Sometimes it's nice to just take all of the definitions that we've been talking about and have it go into a simple format. This is what's happening and this is why it works so well.
220
00:26:59,000 --> 00:27:14,000
It's because our bodies are able to do all of that chemistry science stuff and we feel calmer, we feel more alert and attentive and relaxed.
221
00:27:14,000 --> 00:27:34,000
Did you know that it can help manage conditions and symptoms of anxiety, asthma, cancer, depression, chronic pain, heart disease, and IBS?
222
00:27:34,000 --> 00:27:52,000
I did know that. I used to have, I still do a little bit, but I don't get panic attacks anymore, but I used to get panic attacks. I had high anxiety levels, depression, and you know that.
223
00:27:52,000 --> 00:28:09,000
And that's when I started to learn that meditation was very imperative for me. I don't like to do all the, and I'm not putting down, if you need medication, you get medication.
224
00:28:09,000 --> 00:28:25,000
Like if I have, if I need an antibacterial, I will go get an antibiotic, you know? I'm not putting down pain medication. I'm not putting down any medication at all. I just, I don't like to use them abundantly.
225
00:28:25,000 --> 00:28:36,000
I know it's really hard on our bodies and I know there'll probably be a day that I do have to use a lot of medications, right? Because our bodies are going to get worn down.
226
00:28:36,000 --> 00:28:50,000
But I try really hard to do what I can proactively and use the meditation methods so that I do not have to take medication for panic attacks.
227
00:28:50,000 --> 00:29:01,000
So I don't have to take medication for anxiety and depression. And I have been able to, and I'm not, I'm not 100%. I don't think anybody ever is 100% on these things.
228
00:29:01,000 --> 00:29:15,000
But when I'm able to practice it appropriately, I can stop a panic attack. I can reverse the depression.
229
00:29:15,000 --> 00:29:35,000
But I also have learned that it's important to sometimes just meditate on the feelings of depression that I'm going through and focus in on that and, and start to break it down. And am I feeling depressed because of something outside of me or something inside of me
230
00:29:35,000 --> 00:29:54,000
and taking that moment to get down to the core of it and work it out sometimes is even more beneficial because it helps you work through a lot of things and it makes it to where you're not just dealing with those.
231
00:29:54,000 --> 00:29:56,000
Because it's going to come back, right?
232
00:29:56,000 --> 00:29:58,000
Absolutely. That's life.
233
00:29:58,000 --> 00:30:09,000
But if you know if it's something that is just inside of me and it's just how I feel and it's okay to have our blue days and our gray days and be okay with that.
234
00:30:09,000 --> 00:30:19,000
And I think that falls into the category because there's like different categories of meditation, right? And that would be like mindful meditation mindfulness, right?
235
00:30:19,000 --> 00:30:28,000
And then you're being mindful or aware and accepting of the present moment of what's happening.
236
00:30:28,000 --> 00:30:29,000
Yeah.
237
00:30:29,000 --> 00:30:31,000
And then you work through it and you let it go.
238
00:30:31,000 --> 00:30:32,000
Sure.
239
00:30:32,000 --> 00:30:43,000
And I think it's also important that we going into the wellness part, right? Mental wellness. It's, it's going to have those, okay, what are your things that generally help you.
240
00:30:43,000 --> 00:30:57,000
Like for me, it's what we already mentioned. Sit down and do some artwork, painting, whatever, sing a song, play some music, go out for a walk, go for a drive.
241
00:30:57,000 --> 00:31:05,000
Like something that is an action that takes you from whatever state you're in and resets it.
242
00:31:05,000 --> 00:31:14,000
And so if you already have those things, okay, I had a really busy morning and I just need some relief.
243
00:31:14,000 --> 00:31:18,000
Okay, I know if I go for a walk on my break, I'm going to be fine.
244
00:31:18,000 --> 00:31:24,000
And then you have something to look forward to that helps you manage whatever stressful moment you're in.
245
00:31:24,000 --> 00:31:26,000
And then you reward yourself by doing that.
246
00:31:26,000 --> 00:31:34,000
And then you hit reset while you're going through that motion to what makes it better for you outside of that.
247
00:31:34,000 --> 00:31:51,000
Sometimes we need a little extra help too. Like talking more about the mental wellness part of it. We need to seek professionals that are educated on, you know, our minds and our bodies and how they connect together.
248
00:31:51,000 --> 00:31:55,000
And there's no shame in that either.
249
00:31:55,000 --> 00:32:10,000
I think just the same as we go to a family practitioner for our preventative and general care. Why would we not in moments that we need to seek a therapist or
250
00:32:10,000 --> 00:32:19,000
I mean, yeah, counselor of some sort, as someone who's been in there. I'm not currently in therapy, but someone who has been through therapy multiple times for many years.
251
00:32:19,000 --> 00:32:25,000
Yeah, sometimes you have to, you know, absolutely someone who is currently medicated.
252
00:32:25,000 --> 00:32:29,000
And sometimes you have to get through.
253
00:32:29,000 --> 00:32:45,000
And sometimes we have kind of a balance and sometimes we have all of those things and I'm not like, like I said, that's, that's why we have them with meditation and grounding yourself and mindfulness can be an additional aid to get you through.
254
00:32:45,000 --> 00:32:50,000
Oh yeah, I don't know why and when I just said grounding that made me think of I had a friend several years ago.
255
00:32:50,000 --> 00:33:02,000
Her way of grounding herself was going outside barefoot and stepping in the grass. Yeah, that grounded her so much. She would be in a full blown panic attack.
256
00:33:02,000 --> 00:33:12,000
The moment her feet touched that grass. It was like it just centered her to the ground literally and she was okay. Well, we are nature beings.
257
00:33:12,000 --> 00:33:16,000
And which I thought was so fascinating. I never understood it.
258
00:33:16,000 --> 00:33:20,000
My moment of, of who I am comes out in me right now.
259
00:33:20,000 --> 00:33:21,000
When you mentioned that.
260
00:33:21,000 --> 00:33:23,000
The hippie dippy of me.
261
00:33:23,000 --> 00:33:34,000
Well, but when we step out and we, and we have contact with the natural Earth, it is like she's her mother.
262
00:33:34,000 --> 00:33:45,000
And so we feel comforted in that way, but it also gives us an opportunity to flush out through our roots our feet are our, part of our roots, right?
263
00:33:45,000 --> 00:33:53,000
They're down at the bottom and push out all of those yuckies and pull in from the earth.
264
00:33:53,000 --> 00:34:04,000
All of those warmth and, and comforting feelings. It's our it's our moment to really root in and ground ourselves.
265
00:34:04,000 --> 00:34:17,000
And even if it's just that you have to close your eyes and take a breath, you're working on all of the meditation points and just releasing it out through that through your feet.
266
00:34:17,000 --> 00:34:19,000
Makes sense to me.
267
00:34:19,000 --> 00:34:21,000
I think that would be a really good.
268
00:34:21,000 --> 00:34:23,000
It's a great exercise.
269
00:34:23,000 --> 00:34:26,000
I think it would be a great challenge for us this week.
270
00:34:26,000 --> 00:34:29,000
Don't you think for us to ground ourselves and meditate?
271
00:34:29,000 --> 00:34:30,000
Oh, absolutely.
272
00:34:30,000 --> 00:34:34,000
And take a few minutes, you know, every day to just.
273
00:34:34,000 --> 00:34:35,000
Oh, absolutely.
274
00:34:35,000 --> 00:34:37,000
And it doesn't have to be every day.
275
00:34:37,000 --> 00:34:38,000
Just at least once.
276
00:34:38,000 --> 00:34:40,000
I would say every day.
277
00:34:40,000 --> 00:34:41,000
Oh, absolutely.
278
00:34:41,000 --> 00:34:48,000
I think every day we need to, because we are always, even, even when we go on vacations we need that.
279
00:34:48,000 --> 00:34:49,000
We gotta do this.
280
00:34:49,000 --> 00:34:53,000
You know, it's we.
281
00:34:53,000 --> 00:34:58,000
We as human beings need a moment to pause.
282
00:34:58,000 --> 00:35:03,000
Yes, to hit pause and.
283
00:35:03,000 --> 00:35:05,000
Let it all out.
284
00:35:05,000 --> 00:35:13,000
All of our stresses, all of our things and bring in all of the clean and natural and.
285
00:35:13,000 --> 00:35:15,000
And it doesn't take that long.
286
00:35:15,000 --> 00:35:16,000
Honestly, it's.
287
00:35:16,000 --> 00:35:20,000
It doesn't even, it doesn't even need to be on like your lunch break.
288
00:35:20,000 --> 00:35:22,000
I mean, you get breaks throughout the day.
289
00:35:22,000 --> 00:35:24,000
Just take a couple of minutes.
290
00:35:24,000 --> 00:35:26,000
You can do it in the bathroom.
291
00:35:26,000 --> 00:35:28,000
Take a couple minutes to ground yourself.
292
00:35:28,000 --> 00:35:36,000
Find yourself for a minute and just breathe and find what works for you.
293
00:35:36,000 --> 00:35:38,000
To meditate.
294
00:35:38,000 --> 00:35:40,000
What I'm going to meditate.
295
00:35:40,000 --> 00:35:42,000
It can be as structured.
296
00:35:42,000 --> 00:35:43,000
Or as leisured.
297
00:35:43,000 --> 00:35:44,000
Yeah.
298
00:35:44,000 --> 00:35:46,000
as you, and as relaxed as you need.
299
00:35:46,000 --> 00:35:55,000
And It can be in a specific location at your home where you have it all decked out and you have the yummy smelling stuff and
300
00:35:55,000 --> 00:36:00,000
Everything is perfect or it can be in a bathroom stall at work.
301
00:36:00,000 --> 00:36:08,000
It can be literal meditation or it can be a just a moment to close your eyes and you're like, I'm going to be fine.
302
00:36:08,000 --> 00:36:10,000
All is right in my world.
303
00:36:10,000 --> 00:36:11,000
Exactly.
304
00:36:11,000 --> 00:36:14,000
I end with the challenge of doing that.
305
00:36:14,000 --> 00:36:15,000
Yeah.
306
00:36:15,000 --> 00:36:19,000
Every day and it doesn't have to be long.
307
00:36:19,000 --> 00:36:21,000
It can be 30 seconds.
308
00:36:21,000 --> 00:36:23,000
It can be an hour.
309
00:36:23,000 --> 00:36:25,000
It can be as long as you want it.
310
00:36:25,000 --> 00:36:27,000
It can be as short as you want it.
311
00:36:27,000 --> 00:36:29,000
It can be wherever you want it.
312
00:36:29,000 --> 00:36:35,000
Take a moment to pause to reflect on a focused intentional thing.
313
00:36:35,000 --> 00:36:40,000
Even if it's just saying all is right in my world, which I have a story, but I'll put a pin in it.
314
00:36:40,000 --> 00:36:42,000
I'll put a pin in and save it for later.
315
00:36:42,000 --> 00:36:44,000
I love it.
316
00:36:44,000 --> 00:36:48,000
But I think it's very important that we do that.
317
00:36:48,000 --> 00:36:50,000
Not just for us.
318
00:36:50,000 --> 00:36:53,000
It's something that you'll see a benefit for you.
319
00:36:53,000 --> 00:36:55,000
Absolutely your body will start to relax.
320
00:36:55,000 --> 00:37:06,000
Everything will start to kind of calm down, but you'll also see it in those relationships that you have with other people.
321
00:37:06,000 --> 00:37:09,000
And it's a beautiful thing to watch.
322
00:37:09,000 --> 00:37:14,000
I think if we do that, then we will definitely be feeling grounded and groovy.
323
00:37:14,000 --> 00:37:15,000
Groovy.
324
00:37:15,000 --> 00:37:19,000
Okay, so Simon and Garfunkel, I was thinking the song, feeling groovy.
325
00:37:19,000 --> 00:37:24,000
And I was like, yeah, I need to put grounded and groovy instead of grounded and good.
326
00:37:24,000 --> 00:37:25,000
Grounded and groovy.
327
00:37:25,000 --> 00:37:26,000
Love it.
328
00:37:26,000 --> 00:37:31,000
But with that, we love you all and have a great week.
329
00:37:31,000 --> 00:37:32,000
Bye.
330
00:37:32,000 --> 00:37:33,000
Bye.
331
00:37:33,000 --> 00:37:35,000
Thanks for hanging with AJ.
